Significance of Wearable Tech in Healthcare
Posted by UHC Staffing on February 16, 2023

It is becoming increasingly common for people to prioritize their health and well-being. As a result, more and more people are making lifestyle changes such as exercising regularly, eating a healthy diet, and managing stress in order to improve their overall health and well-being. Wearable devices are playing a critical role in the movement, and for good reason. These devices offer a variety of
benefits, including the ability to monitor and track health data, improve patient care, and increase overall wellness.

There are many types of wearable healthcare devices, including fitness trackers, smartwatches, glucose and blood pressure monitors, sleep monitors, to name a few which are growing increasing popular each day. Of these, here are some wearable devices which have received rapid adoption amongst the health-conscious market segment:

Smartwatches: These are wearable devices that combine the features of a traditional watch with advanced technology, such as the ability to make phone calls and send text messages. In the healthcare industry, smartwatches can be used to track physical activity, monitor
heart rate, and provide reminders to take medication. Some smartwatches also have features such as sleep tracking and the ability to connect to fitness apps.

Continuous glucose monitors: These are wearable devices that help people with diabetes manage their blood sugar levels. These devices are worn on the body and continuously track glucose levels in the interstitial fluid, providing real-time blood sugar readings. CGMs can
alert users to high or low blood sugar levels, allowing them to take appropriate action to
manage their diabetes.

Sleep monitors: They track sleep patterns and can be used to diagnose sleep disorders such as sleep apnea. These devices are worn while the user sleeps and track variables such as breathing patterns, body movements, and heart rate. Sleep monitors can provide valuable insights into sleep quality and can be used to identify potential issues and develop strategies for improving sleep.

Heart rate monitors: They can be worn on the chest or wrist and are often used for fitness and exercise. Heart rate monitors can be used to monitor heart health and identify potential issues such as arrhythmias. Heart rate monitors can also be useful for people with conditions
that may affect heart rate, such as hypertension or diabetes. Many heart rate monitors are compatible with fitness apps and can provide valuable insights into overall health and wellness.

Wearable devices can be a valuable resource for both healthcare providers and patients. For healthcare providers, these devices can offer real-time data on a patient health, allowing for more accurate and timely diagnoses and treatment plans. For patients, wearable devices can provide motivation to lead a healthier lifestyle, as well as peace of mind knowing that their health is being monitored.
