Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide thorough assessment and skilled treatment for adult inpatient speech, language and swallowing disorders
- Manage dysphagia cases with evidence-based clinical and instrumental approaches when indicated
- Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, dietitians and rehab team to create meaningful care plans
- Document clearly and promptly in the medical record to support continuity of care and compliance
- Educate patients, families and staff on safe swallowing strategies and communication supports
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and caseload management to enhance patient outcomes
Qualifications
- ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) preferred or equivalent clinical certification
- Active Hawaii (HI) state license to practice as an SLP required
- Experience managing adult dysphagia in an acute inpatient setting required
- Strong clinical judgment, excellent communication, and teamwork skills
- Current BLS/CPR preferred or willingness to obtain if required by employer
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in adult dysphagia assessment and intervention
- Experience with clinical bedside swallow evaluations and familiarity with instrumental assessments (FEES/VFSS) preferred
- Proficient documentation and care-plan development within hospital EMR systems
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary acute care team
- Patient- and family-centered counseling and education skills
