Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver high-acuity critical care to adult ICU patients with focus and compassion
- Manage and titrate vasoactive and sedative drips safely and per protocol
- Interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently and act on dysrhythmias
- Collaborate with intensivists, hospitalists, RTs and multidisciplinary team for optimal patient outcomes
- Provide trauma, neuro and cardiac post-op care in a Level 1 trauma center environment
- Float between sister ICUs (surgical/trauma neuro, medical cardiac, overflow) as needed
- Participate in required competency validation, simulation lab and pre-acceptance dysrhythmia exam
Qualifications
- Active RN license (state of practice) required
- BSN required
- Minimum 3 years recent acute care experience; at least 2 years in ICU (NEURO or CV experience required/preferred per posting)
- Current BLS and ACLS required; NIHSS required
- Ability to titrate drips (propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, vasopressors, inotropes, etc.)
- Successful completion of UNA Dysrhythmia exam 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- Pass/fail Sim Lab on Day 1 of orientation
- Comfort working without unit-based monitor techs and interpreting own telemetry (GE monitors)
Education
- BSN required
- Active RN license in good standing
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with ventilators and respiratory devices (Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60s, Airvo)
- Experience with post-op cardiac supports (IABP, Impella, ECMO exposure preferred)
- Strong trauma and neuro critical care skills including management of TPA/CVA patients
- Comfort with high-acuity diagnoses: sepsis, ARDS, CRRT familiarity, vascular and thoracic postoperative care
- Proficiency with Cerner charting system is a plus
- Excellent clinical judgment, rapid assessment and multidisciplinary communication
