Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity nursing care for trauma, neuro, cardiovascular and medical cardiac ICU patients, delivering evidence-based critical care
- Safely titrate and manage vasoactive, sedative, analgesic and paralytic drips according to protocols
- Interpret telemetry strips and respond to dysrhythmias promptly and appropriately
- Manage advanced ventilator strategies and noninvasive support (vent settings, CPAP/BiPAP, Airvo) to optimize respiratory function
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team including hospitalists, intensivists, RTs and surgical teams to coordinate patient care
- Perform thorough assessments, document care in Cerner, and communicate plan of care to patients, families and team members
- Maintain readiness for trauma activations and high-acuity procedures common to a Level 1 trauma center
Qualifications
- Active RN license in good standing (able to submit license documentation)
- Minimum 3 years of recent ICU experience required; experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular care (no exceptions)
- BLS, ACLS and NIHSS required prior to or at onboarding
- UNA Dysrhythmia exam required 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- Successful completion of a pass/fail simulation lab on Day 1 of orientation
- Comfort titrating common drips (e.g., vasopressors, sedatives, analgesics) and managing complex devices
- Willingness to float across sister ICUs and follow a 50-mile radius rule regarding recent facility employment
Education
- Active RN license (required)
- BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical care assessment and intervention skills for trauma, neuro and CV patients
- ECG interpretation and dysrhythmia recognition
- Experience with ventilators (Draeger, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840), V60 BiPAP and Airvo systems
- Familiarity with titratable drips: propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, levophed, vasopressin, dopamine/dobutamine, cardene, labetalol, insulin, heparin, etc.
- Comfort with Cerner electronic charting and unit workflows
- Ability to work autonomously when interpreting monitors (GE monitors) and making timely clinical decisions
- Trauma and surgical ICU workflows, including care for post-op crani, ex-lap and specialty neuro-surgery cases
