Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide safe, high-quality nursing care for Neuro Acute / Epilepsy monitoring patients on a telemetry unit
- Continuously assess patients and detect subtle changes in neurologic status, acting quickly and decisively
- Manage telemetry/dysrhythmia monitoring and pass required dysrhythmia competency
- Perform and document nursing procedures including Foley insertion and central line dressing changes (SIMs Lab pass required)
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team including RT, pharmacy, hospitalists/intensivists, and IV SWAT
- Serve as Charge Nurse when scheduled: lead the team, coordinate care, and ensure smooth patient flow
- Maintain sterile technique and adhere to unit-specific policies and safety protocols
- Educate patients and families about condition-specific care and discharge planning
Qualifications
- Current RN license eligible for Arizona submission
- Minimum 2 years MedSurg/Telemetry nursing experience required; Level 1 trauma experience required
- BLS and ACLS required prior to start
- BSN preferred (ADN/Associate considered with strong acute neuro experience)
- Must successfully pass dysrhythmia exam (two attempts) and required SIMs Lab (Foley and central line dressing change)
- Demonstrated competence in maintaining sterile field and advanced assessment skills
- Travel requirements: must have own vehicle for travel teams
- Appearance/fit test requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings; men must be clean shaved for fit test
Education
- BSN preferred; ADN/Associate degree acceptable with required experience and certifications
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical thinking and acute assessment skills - especially neurologic exams
- Telemetry/dysrhythmia recognition and cardiac monitoring
- Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing change competency
- Experience caring for epilepsy patients, trending EEG awareness, and neuro post-op care
- Familiarity with Cerner charting and hospital documentation practices
- Basic ventilator/BiPAP familiarity and working with Respiratory Therapy
- Team collaboration, delegation, and charge nurse leadership skills
