Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care on a Neuro Acute Epilepsy Monitoring unit
• Monitor telemetry and 24-48 hour trend EEGs, promptly identifying and escalating changes
• Perform thorough neurological assessments and communicate subtle changes to the care team
• Maintain sterile technique for procedures and participate in SIMs Lab competency checks
• Support patient safety with proper use of lifts, restraints protocols, and wound care education
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including RT, pharmacy, hospitalists, and SWAT IV team
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned — coordinate staffing and patient flow effectively
• Float to MedSurg/Tele floors as needed while maintaining high clinical standards

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for Arizona submission
• Minimum 2 years clinical RN experience (MedSurg/Telemetry strongly preferred)
• Required certifications: BLS and ACLS
• Level 1 trauma experience is a MUST for this assignment
• Comfortable with dysrhythmia interpretation — must pass dysrhythmia exam (2 attempts allowed)
• Competence in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes or willingness to demonstrate skills in SIMs Lab
• Willingness to comply with site-specific requirements: natural hair color, no facial piercings; male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing
• Travel teams must have their own vehicle and meet the 50-mile radius/driver's license rule

Education

• Active RN license (required)
• BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong critical thinking and advanced assessment skills for neuro populations
• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia recognition
• Neuro-focused skills: cranial nerve assessment, seizure monitoring, trending EEG interpretation
• Sterile technique and procedural competence (Foley, central line dressings)
• Familiarity with Cerner charting system or ability to learn quickly
• Ability to work autonomously and as a charge/resource nurse when required
• Comfort working with ventilated patients (BiPAP) and collaborating with respiratory therapy
