Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to residents, supporting daily living activities with dignity and respect
- Assist with personal hygiene, mobility, feeding, and toileting while encouraging independence
- Monitor and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly and accurately
- Maintain clear, timely documentation of care and resident observations
- Collaborate with the care team to implement individualized care plans
- Follow infection control, safety, and facility policies to keep residents and colleagues safe
- Support a positive, resident-centered environment by engaging residents in conversation and activities
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (or equivalent) recognized by the State of Maryland required
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Current CPR/BLS certification required or obtain upon hire if facility requires
- Prior experience in long-term care, assisted living, or similar setting preferred (6+ months helpful)
- Ability to pass background checks and any facility-required screenings
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centered approach
Education
- High School Diploma or GED preferred; GNA certification required
Knowledge & Skills
- Basic nursing assistant skills: bathing, dressing, feeding, toileting, ambulation assistance
- Resident observation and reporting — knowing what to watch for and when to escalate
- Familiarity with documentation practices and electronic charting basics
- Safe transfer and lifting techniques to protect residents and yourself
- Teamwork and collaboration with nurses, therapists, and other care staff
- Respectful communication with residents, families, and colleagues
