Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate direct care to patients in the Mental Health STRT unit
- Perform safety checks and use de-escalation techniques to maintain a therapeutic environment
- Assist with patient activities of daily living and therapeutic interventions
- Observe, monitor and document changes in patient behavior and status accurately
- Support treatment plans by reporting observations and collaborating with the clinical team
- Participate in team huddles and communicate effectively with nursing and psychiatric staff
- Follow facility policies, complete required documentation, and ensure patient dignity and privacy
Qualifications
- Valid California Psychiatric Technician certification or equivalent preferred; open to certified or experienced psychiatric technicians
- Experience working in mental health settings preferred
- Current BLS/CPR certification or willingness to obtain upon hire
- Ability to pass background check, drug screen, and TB screening as required
- Strong communication, observation, and crisis intervention skills
- Compassionate, patient-centered approach and ability to work independently on assigned day
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Psychiatric Technician certificate or related coursework preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Familiarity with mental health interventions and de-escalation techniques
- Basic knowledge of behavioral health documentation and charting
- Ability to follow care plans and report clinically relevant observations
- Teamwork and collaboration with multidisciplinary mental health staff
- Time management for efficient coverage during a one-day weekly shift
