Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality critical care to adult ICU patients, maintaining required patient ratios (typically 2:1, 1:1 when indicated)
- Deliver safe care during Med/Surg overflow events when patient ratios may temporarily change
- Serve as charge nurse when assigned, coordinating the shift and ensuring smooth operations (additional $2.00/hour differential)
- Closely monitor hemodynamics, ventilator settings, and other complex therapies to optimize patient outcomes
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to identify and escalate unstable pediatric patients for higher level care
- Float to other departments as needed to support patient care without carrying a full team of patients
- Contribute to a minimum staffing model (at least three nurses per shift) and help maintain a safe ICU environment
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state licensure required)
- PALS certification required (must be current)
- Experience or strong background in critical care/Adult ICU nursing
- Comfort with typical ICU patient ratios (2:1; 1:1 when indicated) and managing occasional Med/Surg overflow
- Ability to perform charge nurse duties when assigned and to float to support other departments
Education
- Active RN licensure (Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing acceptable; BSN preferred where applicable)
- Current PALS certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Critical care nursing fundamentals and advanced monitoring (hemodynamics, ventilators, vasoactive drips)
- Triage and escalation of care for unstable patients and safe transfer procedures for pediatric cases
- Familiarity with managing adult ICU patient loads and adjusting care during overflow situations
- Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills for charge and floating duties
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts reliably on day or night rotations
