Registered Nurse - OR (Neurosurgery/Spine)
Location: San Francisco, CA
Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM Day (5x8); Every other weekend coverage (variable, likely once per month)
Hours per Week: 40
Candidate Pay Rate: $72 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Scrub and circulate during neuro, spine, trauma and general surgery cases with precision and calm
- Provide 1:1 patient care, advocating for safety, dignity and excellent outcomes
- Perform Universal Protocol time-outs and enforce infection control and blood administration procedures
- Accurately document care in Epic to ensure continuity and high-quality charting
- Serve in charge nurse or leadership capacity when assigned, guiding unit flow and colleagues
- Float to other UCSF facilities as needed to support patient care and maintain staffing
- Participate in perioperative emergency response and adhere to laser and radiation safety standards
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including radiology, pharmacy and unit secretaries to optimize patient care
Qualifications
- Active California RN license required
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience (perioperative/OR experience strongly preferred)
- AHA BLS required; ACLS and CNOR preferred
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Travel assignment experience required
- Experience with 1:1 patient care and complex neuro/spine cases
- Proficiency with Epic charting system required
- COVID-19 vaccine and booster required per facility guideline (medical/religious exemptions only)
Knowledge & Skills
- Scrub and circulate skills in neuro, spine, vascular and general surgery
- Administration of blood and blood products with strict safety practices
- Universal Protocol (time-out) and strong infection control practices
- Epic charting proficiency for accurate perioperative documentation
- Robotic surgery familiarity, including Da Vinci Xi experience
- Ability to manage specialty cases: craniotomy, spinal fusions, ALIF/XLIF, endovascular procedures
- Understanding of emergency management, malignant hyperthermia response and code protocols
- Experience with specialized equipment: cell saver, electrosurgical units, Steris instruments
- Excellent communication and teamwork in high-acuity teaching hospital environments
- Flexibility to float to other UCSF facilities and support variable schedules
