Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative scrub and circulate support for neurosurgery, spine and general surgery cases
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists and the OR team to ensure safe, efficient patient care
• Perform Epic charting and accurate documentation throughout the perioperative process
• Serve as charge nurse when required, coordinating staffing and patient flow
• Maintain infection control, blood product administration and universal protocol compliance
• Respond to codes and emergency situations with calm, evidence-based action
• Support robotic cases using the Da Vinci Xi and advanced instrumentation when required
• Mentor and support colleagues, sharing best practices in a teaching-hospital setting
• Float to other UCSF facilities as needed to meet patient care needs

Qualifications

• Active California Registered Nurse (RN) license
• AHA BLS required
• Minimum 3 years of RN experience with perioperative/OR background
• Previous travel assignment required
• Previous charge nurse experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required
• Travel nursing experience required
• CNOR and ACLS preferred
• COVID-19 vaccine plus booster required (medical/religious exemptions only)
• Ability to float to other UCSF facilities

Knowledge & Skills

• Scrub and circulate proficiency in perioperative nursing
• Experience with neurosurgery and spine procedures (craniotomy, VP shunt, spinal fusions, laminectomy/discectomy)
• Comfort with general surgery, vascular, robotic and endoscopic procedures
• Proficient in Epic charting and perioperative documentation
• Familiarity with cell saver, electrosurgical units, Da Vinci Xi robotic system and sterile instrumentation
• Strong infection control, specimen handling and universal protocol (time out) skills
• Ability to manage 1:1 patient ratios in a high-acuity OR setting
• Excellent teamwork, communication and leadership skills
