Roles & Responsibilities

• Inspect and assemble instrument trays using content lists and IFU documents to ensure readiness for sterilization
• Disassemble, clean, and reassemble instrumentation, then test for proper functioning
• Operate autoclaves and sterilization equipment following manufacturer guidelines and facility protocols
• Document any missing, damaged, or nonfunctional instruments and submit incomplete instrument reports promptly
• Maintain a clean, organized work area to meet standards for handling sterilized and clean materials
• Follow aseptic technique and high-level disinfection procedures for OB/GYN-specific instruments and scopes

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• BLS (AHA or ARC) required
• Formal or on-the-job Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) training — list on your resume
• Autoclave and sterilization experience required
• Outpatient experience required; OB/GYN procedure setup experience preferred
• Flu vaccination required (no exemptions/no declinations)
• Minimum 1 year of sterile processing experience; 2+ years preferred
• Certifications preferred: CBSPD, IAHCSMM, or HSPA

Education

• High School Diploma or GED

Knowledge & Skills

• Aseptic technique and proper labeling practices
• Sterilization wrapping procedures and use of chemical indicators
• Decontamination, disinfection, and high-level disinfection (HLD) processes
• Washer/sterilizer operation and autoclave cycle validation
• Scope and probe reprocessing, including hysterscope handling
• Familiarity with Epic charting for documentation
• Ability to follow IFU (Instructions for Use) and manufacturer guidelines
• Strong attention to detail and reliable instrument tracking
