Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and triage patients rapidly and accurately in a busy ED environment
• Provide high-quality emergency care for trauma, stroke, sepsis, DKA and complex cardiac patients
• Initiate and manage IV access including ultrasound-guided (U/S) IVs and IO insertion when indicated
• Monitor and interpret EKGs and manage cardiac-related interventions
• Administer medications safely using Alaris pumps and Pyxis systems
• Document patient care clearly and efficiently in Sunrise/Allscripts EMR
• Collaborate with physicians, techs and multidisciplinary teams to deliver timely care
• Deliver compassionate patient- and family-centered care, including psychiatric holding area responsibilities

Qualifications

• Active RN license (must meet state requirements for practice)
• At least 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience (required for contract labor)
• BLS, ACLS, PALS and TNCC certifications required for contract labor
• Strong assessment, critical thinking and communication skills
• Dependability, punctuality and ability to work rotating nights and every other weekend

Knowledge & Skills

• Emergency nursing fundamentals: triage, trauma, stroke protocols and critical care basics
• IV insertion skills including ultrasound-guided (U/S IV) and intraosseous (IO) insertion
• EKG interpretation and cardiac monitoring
• Experience with Alaris infusion pumps and Pyxis medication systems
• Familiarity with Sunrise and Allscripts electronic medical records
• Comfort working in a fast-paced ED with psychiatric holding, multiple procedure rooms and hallway beds
• Strong clinical judgment, adaptability and teamwork
