Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency medical care as the sole provider in the ED during assigned PRN shifts
• Manage inpatient Med/Surg responsibilities at MercyOne Elkader Medical Center when assigned
• Perform common emergency procedures and stabilize patients for transfer or admission as needed
• Document timely and clearly in EPIC to support continuity of care
• Collaborate closely with nursing staff, paramedics, and ancillary teams to ensure safe, efficient patient flow
• Adhere to facility policies and participate in required orientation/credentialing processes

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree with active or eligible Iowa medical license (ability to obtain temporary privileges required)
• Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine preferred
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (other certifications like PALS desirable)
• Experience working independently in an ED and managing inpatient Med/Surg responsibilities, ideally in a rural or community hospital
• Comfort with common ED procedures and independent decision-making
• Able to travel to Elkader and comply with facility credentialing/privileging requirements

Education

• MD or DO (required)

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient in emergency evaluation, stabilization, and disposition
• Familiarity with EPIC or other major EMRs and clear clinical documentation
• Strong procedural skills commonly used in community ED practice
• Ability to work autonomously and escalate appropriately
• Excellent communication and teamwork with nursing and ancillary staff
• Good time management and triage decision-making in low-volume, broad-scope settings
