Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and prioritize care for patients on the Behavioral Medicine Unit using evidence-based nursing practices
- Provide therapeutic nursing interventions and monitor patient responses for safety and progress
- Document patient care accurately and timely in EPIC to ensure continuity of care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Respond to psychiatric crises and use de-escalation techniques to maintain a safe environment
- Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and discharge plans
- Participate in unit-based competency testing and continuous quality improvement activities
Qualifications
- Valid California Registered Nurse (RN) license required
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
- Minimum 6 months experience working on a Behavioral Health unit required
- Experience with EPIC strongly preferred
- Required certification: DCI/BVP as listed in the posting
- Must complete required health screenings and immunizations: COVID-19 vaccine, MMR, Fit Test, Hepatitis B, Influenza vaccine, TB testing (positive PPD with negative chest X-ray accepted), Varicella, Tdap, physical/health statement
- Ability to pass required checks: Prime Core Competencies Exam, Prime Skills Checklist, Prime Specialty Exam, 10-panel drug screen, color-blind test
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Behavioral health assessment and crisis intervention skills
- Strong therapeutic communication and de-escalation techniques
- Medication administration and monitoring in a psychiatric setting
- Proficient documentation skills in EPIC
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
- Infection control awareness and adherence to health screening requirements
- Attention to detail for competency checklists and specialty exams
