Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, high-quality patient care using the nursing process: assess, plan, implement and evaluate
- Provide direct patient care within scope of practice in the Emergency Department and Telemetry areas
- Coordinate and communicate patient status changes and diagnostic results with physicians and care team
- Lead and guide patient/family teaching to promote understanding and recovery
- Assist and direct other nursing personnel while maintaining professional standards of care
- Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition and responses to treatment
- Document care thoroughly and accurately in EPIC EMR
- Follow EMTALA regulations and report suspected child/adult abuse to appropriate agencies
- Maintain strict patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
Qualifications
- Current and valid California RN license (required)
- BLS required; ACLS and PALS required
- NRP, DCI/BVP or equivalent certifications listed by facility
- EPIC EMR experience (required) — comfort charting in electronic systems
- NIHSS or Stroke Certification preferred
- EDAP 1 and 2 preferred; BVP (MAB) training preferred
- COVID-19 vaccination and boosters preferred (facility policy)
- Successful completion of drug screen, TB testing, immunizations (MMR, Varicella, Hep B, Tdap) and fit testing per facility policy
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred or equivalent nursing education
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and clinical judgment
- Proficiency with nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
- Comfortable with telemetry monitoring and emergency care protocols
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Knowledge of EMTALA and reporting requirements for abuse
- Ability to respond rapidly to changing patient conditions
- Skilled in patient/family education and care coordination
- Familiarity with Prime clinical competency testing and specialty exams
