Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, safe, and effective nursing care on a primarily surgical floor with some medical overlap
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve the best outcomes
• Collaborate with physicians, charge nurses, and patient care techs to coordinate seamless care
• Monitor patient status and escalate changes promptly to ensure patient safety
• Document care accurately and timely in the electronic health record
• Support unit workflows during admissions, discharges, and transfers to keep the unit moving smoothly
• Mentor and support less experienced staff and contribute to a positive team culture

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license in Illinois or compact license eligible
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred or willing to obtain
• Prior med-surg or post-surgical nursing experience preferred (1+ year recommended)
• Comfortable working in a 35 private-room environment with team-based care
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and time management skills
• Ability to work scheduled weekends and collaborate on holiday coverage

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong med-surg and post-operative nursing knowledge
• Skilled in patient assessment, medication administration, and wound care
• Familiarity with electronic health records and accurate clinical documentation
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize effectively
• Team player attitude and a focus on patient-centered care
