Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess and monitor adult PCU patients with acuity including cardiac, respiratory, renal, and post-procedure care
- Administer medications and titrate drips such as heparin, nitro, dopamine, Cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin safely and accurately
- Read and interpret telemetry strips and act on changes in cardiac rhythm
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to create and implement patient-centered care plans
- Document clinical care and assessments accurately in EPIC
- Troubleshoot high flow respiratory equipment and use lifts and assistive devices to ensure safe patient handling
- Provide culturally competent communication and patient education to diverse populations
- Participate in unit orientation, complete required competency evaluations, and demonstrate skills on the open book pass/fail exam
Qualifications
- Current RN license to practice in the state of Nebraska
- Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS at time of submission
- Minimum 2 years of acute care, PCU, stepdown, or similar experience
- Valid driver's license required at submittal and used for radius verification
- Ability to titrate drips and manage cardiac telemetry independently
- Willingness to work weekends and rotate holidays, float to MedSurg or ICU as needed
- Able to pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%
- Must not be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facilities per radius rule
Education
- ADN or diploma in Nursing required, BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong critical care and patient assessment skills
- Medication administration and IV drip titration experience
- Telemetry interpretation and cardiac rhythm recognition
- Familiarity with EPIC charting system
- Teamwork, clear communication, and adaptability
- Experience using lifts, bladder scanners, and vein finders
- Cultural competence serving diverse patient populations
- Ability to learn quickly and take feedback constructively
