Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled occupational therapy evaluation and treatment to residents to improve independence and daily functioning
- Develop individualized treatment plans and measurable goals in collaboration with patients and the interdisciplinary team
- Document progress, update care plans, and communicate changes to the care team and family members
- Train and mentor nursing staff and therapy assistants on therapy goals and safe, effective techniques
- Adapt activities and environments to maximize safety and participation for each resident
- Contribute to a positive, person-centered care environment focused on dignity and meaningful outcomes
Qualifications
- Valid Occupational Therapist license in Maine (or eligible to obtain state licensure)
- For COTA applicants: certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant and relevant state credentials
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) / CPR certification (or willing to obtain)
- Previous experience in a skilled nursing, long-term care, or inpatient rehab setting preferred
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team
Education
- Degree in Occupational Therapy (OT) or completion of an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program for COTA applicants
- Additional certifications related to geriatric rehab or adaptive equipment are a plus
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in ADL/IADL assessment and functional mobility interventions
- Knowledge of assistive devices, adaptive equipment, and environmental modifications
- Proficient documentation and care-plan development
- Ability to educate patients, families, and staff in therapy strategies and safe transfers
- Strong clinical reasoning and goal-setting abilities
