Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare the OR and instruments, ensuring sterile technique and patient safety
- Assist with patient transport, positioning, skin prep and surgical draping
- Support anesthesia induction and intubation when needed
- Assist clinicians with arterial, central line and epidural procedures as appropriate
- Perform large-bore IV starts and medication administration under unit protocol
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner and support BCMA medication workflows
- Communicate clearly with the perioperative team to keep cases running smoothly
- Work independently in a high-acuity environment while collaborating with CVOR staff
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent experience in OR (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years clinical experience (critical care or perioperative experience strongly preferred)
- Current BLS certification (required)
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Comfortable assisting with lines, epidurals, and airway support during procedures
Education
- Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or equivalent clinical training
- High school diploma or GED required; additional perioperative coursework a plus
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on experience in OR/PreOp workflows and sterile technique
- Familiarity with Cerner documentation and BCMA medication administration
- Experience with GE Carescape monitoring systems and Fuji ultrasound exposure
- Strong critical thinking and situational awareness in perioperative care
- Skilled in patient positioning, skin prep, and OR instrumentation
