Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide skilled physical therapy interventions and assist the treating Physical Therapist to improve patient mobility
- Deliver therapeutic exercise programs, gait training, transfers, and balance interventions with safety and compassion
- Document patient progress, treatments, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record
- Communicate effectively with the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient-centered care
- Educate patients and families on home programs, safety strategies, and recovery expectations
- Maintain equipment, uphold infection control standards, and ensure a safe therapeutic environment
Qualifications
- Licensed Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) in New Mexico or eligible to obtain state licensure
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program
- Current BLS/CPR certification (or willing to obtain prior to start)
- Prior experience in inpatient or acute care settings is preferred but motivated new grads are welcome
- Strong patient-handling skills and a team-first attitude
Education
- Associate degree in Physical Therapist Assistant (or related allied health degree) and state PTA licensure
Knowledge & Skills
- Clinical knowledge of therapeutic exercise progression and functional mobility training
- Experience with transfers, gait training, balance and wheelchair management
- Proficient charting and documentation skills in an EHR environment
- Excellent communication and patient education skills
- Ability to prioritize caseloads and collaborate with nursing and rehab teams
