Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living including ambulation, feeding, bathing, grooming, and toileting
- Perform safe patient transfers and positioning to prevent injury and pressure injuries
- Obtain and record vital signs (including orthostatic), pulse oximetry, glucose point-of-care testing, and other routine measurements
- Respond to changes in patient condition and communicate timely, accurate reports to the care team
- Follow infection control protocols including donning/removing PPE and isolation precautions
- Maintain clean, safe patient environments by changing linens and performing basic bedside care
- Document care accurately in the electronic charting system (Epic) and support interdisciplinary care plans
Qualifications
- Current Alaska CNA license OR Alaska CNA application submitted prior to job submission (pending acceptable if application submitted; must complete AK application within 72 hours of signing)
- If AK license is pending: valid CNA license from another state and documentation of completion of a formal CNA training program (certificate or transcript)
- BLS certification (BLSS) required
- Minimum 0.5 years of CNA experience preferred (job text also references 1 year in places); LTAC/LTC or skilled nursing experience preferred
- Must be at least 50 miles from facility (locals not accepted)
- Ability to work every other weekend and float within scope to meet facility needs
Education
- Completion of a formal CNA training program (certificate or transcript required if AK CNA license is not yet active)
Knowledge & Skills
- Experience with long term acute care (LTAC), long term care (LTC), or skilled nursing settings
- Proficiency with basic nursing procedures: glucose testing, oxygen/tank familiarity, pulse oximetry
- Strong infection control practices and PPE use
- Skilled in safe patient handling and transfers
- Ability to recognize and report abnormal vs normal vital sign parameters for adults and pediatrics
- Comfortable charting in Epic or similar electronic health records
- Professional communication and teamwork with interdisciplinary staff
