Roles & Responsibilities
- Assess speech, language, cognition, and swallowing function using evidence-based tools
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans to improve patient communication and swallowing safety
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, PT/OT and family members to coordinate care and maximize outcomes
- Document progress and write clear, timely notes and discharge summaries
- Provide education and training to patients, families, and staff to support carryover of therapy goals
- Monitor patient safety, especially during dysphagia management, and adjust plans accordingly
Qualifications
- Valid California Speech-Language Pathology license (required)
- Master's degree or higher in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred but not required
- Current CPR/BLS certification preferred
- Experience evaluating and treating adult patients across communication and swallowing disorders
- Strong interpersonal and documentation skills, comfortable working within an interdisciplinary team
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology (required)
- ASHA certification preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in clinical swallowing evaluations and dysphagia management
- Proficient with standardized assessments and functional communication treatment approaches
- Knowledge of medical terminology and working in post-acute/long-term care environments
- Ability to educate and coach caregivers and clinical staff effectively
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and timely documentation practices
