Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered oncology nursing care on a 21-bed oncology unit
- Administer and monitor chemotherapy and IV therapies safely, including use of Baxter pumps
- Perform assessments, document care in Meditech, and escalate changes in condition promptly
- Manage neutropenic precautions and strict intake/output monitoring to protect vulnerable patients
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create and implement individualized care plans
- Educate patients and families about treatments, side-effect management, and discharge planning
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to unit guidelines for lines, dressing changes, and infection control
Qualifications
- Active RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent oncology nursing experience (must have oncology background)
- Chemotherapy certification preferred
- Experience with hematology-oncology, bone marrow transplant care is a plus
- Comfortable using Meditech and Baxter infusion pumps
- Ability to work rotating weekends and function well in a fast-paced team environment
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred
- Proof of RN licensure and BLS certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Oncology clinical knowledge and safe chemo handling practices
- IV therapy and infusion pump management (Baxter pumps)
- Electronic medical record documentation (Meditech)
- Neutropenic precautions and infection prevention
- Patient education and family communication skills
- Basic critical thinking for acute changes and triage
