Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate patients to identify functional limitations and establish meaningful OT goals
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that promote independence
- Use therapeutic activities and adaptive equipment to maximize patient outcomes
- Document progress clearly and timely in the electronic health record
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, case managers and families to coordinate care
- Educate patients and caregivers on strategies for home safety and long-term function
- Participate in discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions and continuity of care
Qualifications
- Active Occupational Therapist license in Virginia (or compact/state equivalent)
- NBCOT certification preferred or in-process candidates considered
- Current BLS/CPR certification as required by facility
- Experience in inpatient rehabilitation, post-acute, or similar OT settings preferred
- Strong documentation skills and comfort with electronic health records
- Professional, team-oriented attitude with excellent communication skills
Education
- Degree in Occupational Therapy (Bachelor's, Master's, or OTD)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in assessment and treatment planning for ADLs and IADLs
- Familiarity with adaptive equipment, splinting basics and positioning techniques
- Knowledge of mobility, transfers and safe patient handling principles
- Ability to deliver goal-directed, outcome-focused therapy
- Competent documentation and data-driven progress tracking
- Strong interpersonal skills for patient and family education
