Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based postpartum and mother-baby nursing care
- Monitor maternal and newborn vital signs and recognize changes quickly
- Support breastfeeding and provide practical lactation education to new parents
- Perform thorough postpartum assessments and newborn care interventions
- Collaborate with physicians, lactation consultants, and the care team to optimize outcomes
- Document patient care accurately and communicate handoffs clearly
- Respond effectively to maternal or neonatal emergencies and escalate when needed
- Educate families on discharge planning, safety, and newborn care to promote confident transitions home
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas or eligibility for licensure
- Minimum 1 year of recent clinical experience in Postpartum / Mother-Baby care
- Current BLS certification required; NRP and lactation training preferred
- Demonstrated comfort with newborn assessments, postpartum interventions, and family education
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on a fast-paced unit
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong knowledge of postpartum maternal assessments and newborn care basics
- Skills in breastfeeding support and patient education
- Ability to manage routine postpartum interventions and recognize complications
- Competence with electronic medical records and accurate clinical documentation
- Calm decision-making in urgent situations and effective team collaboration
