Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting with compassion and dignity
- Support mobility and transfers safely using proper body mechanics and assistive devices
- Observe and report changes in resident condition to nursing staff promptly
- Provide respectful companionship and help maintain resident comfort and morale
- Document care provided accurately and timely according to facility protocols
- Help maintain a clean, safe environment by following infection control and safety procedures
- Assist with meals and feeding, monitoring intake and reporting concerns
Qualifications
- Current GNA certification (state-approved) required
- CPR/BLS certification preferred or willingness to obtain
- Previous experience caring for geriatric residents or in long-term care preferred
- Ability to pass background checks, drug screening, and meet facility health requirements
- Strong communication skills and a team-player attitude
- Reliable, punctual, and committed to resident-centered care
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Completed GNA training program and certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of basic geriatric care principles and common age-related conditions
- Skill in safe resident handling, transfers, and fall prevention
- Ability to accurately record observations and follow care plans
- Familiarity with infection control, hand hygiene, and PPE use
- Compassionate interpersonal skills and patience with older adults
- Time management and the ability to prioritize resident needs
