Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide specialized cardiovascular nursing care using strong clinical judgment to assess and treat patient needs
- Monitor telemetry/EKG and respond promptly to changes in cardiac status
- Deliver post-operative cardiac care for open-heart and interventional cardiology patients (18-24 hours post-op care)
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize outcomes
- Document patient care accurately and timely in Cerner EMR
- Adhere to unit and system-wide profile standards, including completing required skills checklist
- Float to similar units when required to support staffing and continuity of care
- Support and participate in clinical trials and NISUS research activities when applicable
Qualifications
- Active Michigan RN license required (verification via LARA and Nursys)
- Minimum 1+ year ICU experience (floating experience alone is not considered) — REQUIRED
- EKG/telemetry experience — REQUIRED
- Skills checklist completed within one year of application — REQUIRED (document in profile)
- ACLS and BLS certifications — REQUIRED
- Willingness to float to similar units — REQUIRED
- Experience with Cerner EMR — PREFERRED
- Experience in Neuro, CVICU, Trauma, ventilator management, CRRT, or balloon pump care — PREFERRED
- Familiarity with cardiac procedures (PTCA, stents, TAVR, MitraClip) and electrophysiology — PREFERRED
Education
- Active RN license in Michigan required
- Completion of an accredited nursing program (RN) and up-to-date specialty certifications as required
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiovascular nursing and telemetry/ECG interpretation
- Post-operative cardiac patient management and congestive heart failure care
- Clinical judgment in high-acuity settings
- Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record
- ACLS and BLS protocols and emergency response
- Experience with advanced cardiac devices and supports (CRRT, balloon pumps, ventricular assist therapies)
- Ability to float to similar critical care units and adapt quickly
- Comfort participating in clinical research protocols (NISUS)
