Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert bedside care for PCU/stepdown patients, including cardiac telemetry monitoring
- Start and maintain IVs, manage peripheral and PICC lines, and assist with arterial line care
- Administer and monitor blood products safely and according to protocols
- Interpret arterial blood gases and manage respiratory supports like HFNC and non-invasive ventilation
- Recognize and act on dysrhythmias, participate in rapid response and code teams
- Support procedural sedation monitoring and post-procedure patient care when needed
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and PT to optimize patient outcomes
- Provide wound care, feeding tube management, and pre/post hemodialysis support as required
- Float to equivalent or lower acuity stepdown/PCU areas and other campuses as needed, adapting quickly to new environments
- Document care accurately in EPIC and communicate handoffs clearly to ensure continuity
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse license in Ohio (or eligible to obtain) — we want you practicing legally and confidently
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience, with solid step-down/PCU experience considered equivalent and welcomed
- BLS and ACLS required, NIHSS preferred
- Demonstrated IV start and telemetry experience — these are must-have skills for success here
- EPIC experience required for charting and documentation
- Phlebotomy and IV therapy skills are a plus, procedural sedation experience considered beneficial
- Ability and willingness to float to other stepdown/PCU areas and campuses as needed
Education
- Active RN license required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation
- IV therapy, peripheral/PICC/central line care and blood product administration
- Arterial blood gas interpretation and respiratory support management including HFNC and CPAP/BiPAP
- Tracheostomy care and non-invasive airway management
- Familiarity with heparin and insulin protocols, managing drips (non-titration per unit guidelines)
- Use of rapid response and code team protocols
- Wound care, feeding tube management, and pre/post procedural nursing care
- Strong EPIC documentation and electronic charting skills
- Cross-unit adaptability and teamwork in fast-paced, stepdown environments
