Shift Type: Rotating day/night, 3x12-hour shifts per week (3 days/week). Day shifts: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM; Night shifts: 7:30 PM - 7:30 AM. Every-other-weekend coverage required; on-call required.
Hours per Week: 36
Candidate Pay Rate: $60 per hour

Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide expert, compassionate care to adult neuro-critical patients, managing complex neurological conditions such as ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke, SAH, post-craniotomy care and TBI
- Monitor and manage invasive neuromonitoring devices including external ventricular drains (EVD) and ICP monitoring to maintain patient stability
- Safely manage mechanical ventilation and advanced respiratory devices (ventilator, BiPAP/CPAP, HFNC) and interpret ABGs to guide care
- Initiate and maintain IV access including central, arterial and PICC lines; manage vasoactive and titratable drips
- Interpret telemetry and dysrhythmias; obtain and interpret 12‑lead ECGs as part of cardiac monitoring
- Deliver timely, evidence-based emergency interventions and participate in rapid response and resuscitation efforts
- Document accurately and efficiently in Epic, ensuring continuity of care and clear communication with the interdisciplinary team
- Collaborate with therapists, pharmacy, respiratory, radiology and other support services to coordinate patient-centered care
- Educate patients and families about diagnosis, treatment plans and discharge needs with empathy and clarity
- Float to other units within the OSU organization as needed while maintaining high standards of care
Qualifications
- 3 years of Neuro ICU experience required (strong neuro background accepted at 2 years in some cases)
- Current BLS certification required
- ACLS certification required (AHA preferred)
- NIHSS certification (AHA) required
- Demonstrated experience with ventilator management, intracranial pressure monitoring and IV starts
- Epic EHR experience required
- Travel nurse experience required; first-time travelers will be screened
- Ability to float to equivalent/lower acuity units and be on-call as required
- Active RN license in the state of practice (or compact license as applicable)
Knowledge & Skills
- Expertise in Neuro Critical Care principles and post-neurosurgery management
- Proficient in ventilator management, ABG interpretation and respiratory support modalities
- Skilled with invasive lines: arterial, central, PICC and EVD/ICP devices
- Strong telemetry and dysrhythmia interpretation skills
- Ability to titrate vasoactive and cardiac drips and manage continuous sedation/paralytics
- Competence in emergency meds, procedural sedation monitoring, and rapid response
- Familiarity with infection prevention, PPE and phlebotomy
- Comfortable with bedside procedures: trach care, PEGs, line care and bedside EVD management
- Collaborative communication with interdisciplinary teams and patient/family education
